Attaching YourBagTag Scuba Name ID Tags to Dive Shop & Resort Rental Gear 0
While 4 inch zip ties work well for attaching YourBagTag scuba name ID tags to recreational gear, dive shops and resort rentals get a lot more wear and tear. A more sturdy way of attaching tags was given to us several years ago by a dive shop owner who stopped into our booth at the Diving Equipment Marketing Association (DEMA) trade show.
You will need several items - 150 lb test fishing leader, mini copper double barrel crimp sleeves 1.4 mm X 7 mm, and a crimping tool. I purchased mine on Amazon.com, here are the links as of Jan. 2017:
Cut a suitable length of leader material - actual length will depend on where you are going to attach the tag. Try and keep the length to a minimum as excessive length may allow the tag to catch on other equipment. Carefully insert ends of leader into the barrel crimp and use crimping tool to finish the crimp. Be sure and test by pulling on the tag.
Note: If you are using a different thickness - lighter/heavier line, you will need to adjust the size of the crimp. CatchAllTackle.com suggests the following crimp sizes for line:
- 1.0mm x 14mm 60-80lb mono,
- 1.3mm x 14mm 80-150 lb,
- 1.4mm x 14mm 120-150lb,
- 1.5mm x 14mm 150-200lb,
- 1.8mm x 14mm 250-300lb,
- 2.0mm x 14mm 300-400lb,
- 2.2mm x 14mm 400-500lb,
- 2.5mm x 14mm 500-600lb,
- 2.7mm x14mm 600+,
- 2.9mm x 14mm
